One sip of California
Pinot Noir a few years ago was all it took, my life
as I knew it was changed forever.
This extraordinary first sip of pinot from the Santa
Lucia Highlands sparked a light-bulb in my head. I
needed and wanted to research all producers of pinot
from this intriguing/unique micro climate.
The Google searches began. I uncovered many producers
I had never encountered. Production was extremely
small and these producers offered something very different,
a style of pinot not often found in wine shops. Hence
the reason my palate was not inclined to drink pinot
noir until I discovered this unique, bold style.
The research continued and I came across a wealth
of winemakers/growers that were living my dream. The
phone calls and emails started. I received incredible
feedback and lots of encouraging help but nothing
really happened until I came across the Loring
Wine Company website. I read the entire thing
and in between laughs and bursts of hope I realized
I could possibly make my dream happen.
I sent an email to Brian Loring asking if I could
kindly speak to him sometime about getting into the
wine business, he responded within 1 hour! I called
him that day and spoke for a few hours. When I hung
up the phone the first thing that resonated through
my mind was “what did I just do”? I really
felt an opportunity had just presented itself and
I was going to run with it. The words that Brian spoke
and that still ring in my head each and every day
are…”You have to do it NOW”!
And so A.P.VIN began with the mentoring and kindness
of Brian Loring. It has become my passion and tribute
to California Pinot Noir. I really felt that if I
could experience such a life-changing event over a
sip of wine, I needed to share it with others as a
true journey into California Pinot Noir; discovering
new wines, new locales and new friends.
Since I started this quest I have met people with
extreme passion and talent, tasted amazing wines,
traveled to mind blowing beautiful vineyards and shared
ideas with countless enophiles. The true sense of
a journey has finally begun and I hope to share it
with all of you. I’m driving this adventurous
bus, come on board!

The
Name: Just a brief background
on the naming of the winery. I struggled with
a good, roll-off-the-tongue sounding name. I
wasn’t really sure of the name until I
was speaking with Peter Cargasacchi’s
father, John Cargasacchi, about my last name
before the 2003 harvest. He repeatedly said
“Vingiello, you have WINE in your name!
You must use it.” Coming from a true scholar,
passionate farmer/rancher and Italian heritage…
I could only abide by his spoken words. VIN
represents the history and heritage of my family
name to which I salute. Cheers!
